Expedia Sued By IBM Over Patents
Bellevue-based travel site operator Expedia, along with its many travel booking businesses, including HomeAway, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Orbitz and Travelocity, have been sued by patent giant IBM, over those companies' use of "single sign-on" technology. According to the IBM lawsuit, Expedia's businesses are infringing upon a number of IBM patents. Expedia is facing a potent patent foe: IBM is one of the most prolific patent filers in the world, with 8,088 patents granted to the company alone in just 2016.
