Redfin, Madrona, Pioneer Square, Others Back Diversity Effort
Seattle-based Redfin, along with Seattle's Madrona Venture Group and Pioneer Square Labs, is backing a new effort to spur diversity on the board of directors of startups, the company announced on Thursday. Redfin said the new #DiverseFromTheStart effort calls for startups to make at least one independent board seat available to diverse candidates within two years of series-A funding or an institutional investment. The effort is also being backed by DFJ and Greylock Partners, as well as Boardspan. Redfin pointed to stats showing that, despise the number of new venture capital partners who are women, there has been no change to the diversity of startup boards.
