Focal Technologies Snags Funding For Solar Powered Waste Cleanup

Portland, Oregon-based Focal Technologies, a startup developing technology which uses concentrated solar energy to break down organic contamination in agriculture waste streams, ponds and industrial sites, has scored funding from Oregon BEST, the company said this week. Size of the early stage funding was not announced. Oregon BEST said the funding will help the company work with researchers at Oregon State University on its technology. Focal Technologies has developed a solar concentrating lens, which subjects waste effluent with ultra violet energy, helping to clean water, remove E.coli and other harmful bacteria, break down toxins, and more--all using the sun. Focal Technologies is led by Eric Steinmeyer, and its technology was created by Don Steinmeyer, a former member of the Chief Engineers Office for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.
