Amazon Planning 400 Bricks-and-Mortars Stores?
A report on Tuesday said that Amazon.com is looking at opening up 300 to 400, bricks and mortar bookstores--although the company refused to comment on the news. The reports came from a comment from General Growth Properties CEO Sandeep Mathrani, a major operator of mails nationwide. It's unclear where Mathrani's information came from. The move would be out of character for Amazon.com, whose entire rise to prominence in the e-commerce area came from putting a large portion of bricks and mortar bookstores out of business. Despite that history, Amazon.com had been a possible buyer of the retail locations of RadioShack.com, and has already opened up a retail store in Seattle.
