Tripwire: Smart Home Automation Hubs Not So Secure
Portland-based security software vendor Tripwire said today that it has run a security assessment on the three, top selling smart home automation home products on Amazon.com--and found that they all have "significant security flaws." Tripwire said that hackers would be able to figure out when people aren't at hoem; change alarm settings; open locks without authorization; and access local area networks--not to mention to use those hubs for distributed, denial-of-services attacks. Tripwire did not disclose the name of those home automation hubs. Tripwire said that two out of the three vendors have patched the flaws discovered by Tripwire. It's unclear if those patches would protect current customers of those devices, which generally do not self update.
