Amazon Web Services Adds Lower Cost SSD For Elastic Block Storage
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, said today that it has rolled out lower cost, solid state disk (SSD) as part of its Elastic Block Store service, which makes that high performance storage available to a wider range of customers. Amazon said it will offer up that storage at prices starting at $0.10/GB to customers, for use in a wide range of applications. Solid state storage uses memory--rather than spinning platters--to store data, which is generally much, much faster than traditional, disk-based storage.
