Classmates: We're 18!
Remember the dot com boom and bust? The folks over at Seattle's Classmates.com probably do, as the company trumpeted this morning that it has just hit 18 years of business. Classmates said it started its website in 1995, as a place to reconnect long-lost friends. The company said it is one of the Web's "first social networks". The company--which is now owned by United Online--is now in the midst of a continued effort to keep the service relevant, particularly in a world full of social services (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Google Plus, etc.) which all look to do similar things with keeping people connected. Classmates was founded by former Boeing engineer Randy Conrads, who is now CEO of vacation rental marketplace RedWeek.com.
