Amazon Debuts New EC2 Memory Option
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services is targeting developers creating memory-intensive applications, with a new offering in Amazon EC2. According to Amazon, its new High Memory Cluster instances on EC2 are aimed at applications such as in-memory analytics, databases, caching, and scientific computing. Developers can specifically select those instances for their apps to take advantage of 120GB of solid state storage, 224 GB of ram, running with two Intel Xeon E5-2670 processors. The new instance type--which can run Linux or Windows--is part of a number of configurations available from Amazon for cloud applications.
