Redbox Battles Walt Disney Over Releases

Redbox, the low priced movie rental service owned by Bellevue-based Coinstar, is apparently ramping up a war with Walt Disney, after Disney decided to delay the release of its new titles to Redbox and Netflix. According to reports, Redbox has decided to purchase Walt Disney's latest release, 'John Carter', to bypass Disney's delay of the DVD release to the firm, against Disney's wishes. Walt Disney has joined Universal, Fox, and Warner Bros. in delaying their release to Redbox and Netflix, in an attempt by those studios to stem losses it attributes to the low cost availability of their titles in the Redbox kiosks.
