RealNetworks Completes Patent Sale To Intel
Seattle-based RealNetworks said late Thursday that it has collected $120M, after selling its patents and next generation video codec software to Intel. RealNetworks, which had originally announced the patent sale deal in January, said it will continue to retain certain rights to use the patents in current and future products. RealNetworks sold the patents to Intel in January, saying that it is looking to "unlock the value" of the firm's assets. The company had earlier said the deal included 190 patents and 170 patent applications in process.
