Mozy Acquired by VMware
Seattle-based data storage service Mozy, which is owned by EMC, has been acquired by virtualization software firm VMware, VMware said Monday evening. VMware--which was spun out of EMC--said that it has hired the team and acquired the assets behind EMC's Mozy cloud-based data protection service. Financial details of the move were not disclosed. VMware said it will operate the Mozy service on behalf of EMC without interruption, and that it will incorporate the core data-handling technologies developed by the Mozy team into its products. EMC is the parent firm of both Mozy and VMware.
