Tippr Proposes Open Format For Group Deals
Seattle-based Tippr, which is developing technology for powering the now-ubiquitous daily and group deals sites, said Thursday that it is proposing the creation of a new, open format for group buying. The firm said it is looking to create a new "Open Deal Format" which it says will allow mutiple sites to exchange group buying offers. Tippr, which is headed by Martin Tobias, argues that the format will allow publishers launching group buying sites to tap into the richest set of national, local, and online offers to augment their own sales efforts. Tippr said it hopes that a standard would enable a local shop to submit its offer to any set of group buying sites, including Groupon, LivingSocial, Yollar, and Tippr. The firm has not yet detailed the information on the specification, but said it hopes to propose it to the overall industry in December in Seattle.
