Vote iQ Targets Grassroots Activists, Angry With Facebook

Looking to capitalize on a widespread flap over the banning of a page calling for the boycott of Target over its funding of anti-gay politicians, Gig Harbor, Washington-based Vote iQ, the operator of a social networking site focused on political activists, said this week that it offers up a platform specifically for activists interested in getting their message out. Vote iQ said it is inviting grassroots activists angry with Facebook to instead use its site, to promote their message and recruit new members. The firm said that--unlike Facebook--its site is far less restrictive in terms of letting anyone with a political cause create their own pages, and not just formal institutions. Facebook caused a firestorm of controversy earlier this week when it shut down a "Boycott Target Until They Cease Funding Anti-Gay Politics" page.
