Isilon Adds iSCSI Support
Seattle-based clustered storage firm Isilon said today that it has integrated support for the iSCSI storage protocol into its OneFS operating system. According to the firm, the support means that its users can support both file- and block-based applications onto its shared storage pool. The firm previously only had support for file-based storage protocols on its products. iSCSI is a storage protocol which uses Ethernet to transport block-based storage, using the same block-based SCSI commands commonly used by storage arrays and disk drives. Isilon said the new functionality is available immediately and is free to its customers.
