Widevine, Competitor Settle Patent Suit
Seattle-based Widevine and competitor Verimatrix, a developer of DRM software for the set top box market, have settled a patent lawsuit brought by Widevine in August of 2007. Widevine, which develops digital rights management technology, had sued Verimatrix over U.S. Patent Nos. 7,165,175 and 7,376,831. According to Verimatrix, Widevine has granted the firm a license on the two patents in question, plus foreign counterparts. Financial details of the settlement were not announced by either party, however, Verimatrix said it made no admission as to infringement of the patents. The lawsuit was filed in the Eastern District of Texas, a popular jurisdiction for patent lawsuits.
