Amazon Targets Cell Phone Shoppers With New Site
Seattle-based Amazon.com said today that it has launched a new, vertical site specifically focused on selling cell phones and service plans. The firm said the new site, AmazonWireless, is in beta, and will offer shopping for cell phones and service plans, including offerings from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Amazon said the new site would make it less confusing for consumers to purchase or upgrade their cell phones, and that it would eliminate rebate hassles and paperwork which are usually associated with purchasing cell phone plans. The site currently only offers AT&T and Verizon Wireless plans, however, Amazon said it would be adding additional carriers during its beta test.
