Xerox Cuts Ribbon on $24M Ink Factory
Xerox Corp. announced Wednesday that it has officially opened a new automated ink manufacturing plant on its campus in Wilsonville, Ore. Xerox explained that the $24 million facility will focus on producing solid ink for its Phaser 8860 line of solid color ink printers. Xerox said the crayon-like ink sticks, which took some five years to develop, make color printing as affordable as black-and-white printing because they last longer than conventional liquid ink cartridges, cost half as much, generate less waste and consume less energy. The new facility, Xerox said, comprises 10,000 square feet of floor space and currently employs some 75 people with 20 more expected to be hired. In all, the company employs some 1,600 people on its Wilsonville campus.
