SiOnyx Gets Funding From In-Q-Tel
SiOnyx, a developer of CMOS imaging sensors being applied to night vision and other systems, reported yesterday that it has scored a strategic round from In-Q-Tel. The firm, which has significant operations in Beaverton, Oregon, did not disclose financial details of the deal. In-Q-Tel is the investment arm of the CIA and the U.S. government's other intelligence operations. SiOnyx said the move will accelerate the integration of its image sensors in imaging systems. The company says its low-cost, CMOS chips "dramatically enhance" the sensitivity of silicon-based photonics. SiOnyx develops sensors which include Near Infrared (NIR) and Short-Wave-Infrared (SWIR) detection capabilities, which have normally been very expensive technology to include in electronics.
