PopCap Games Gets Into Merchandising
Seattle-based PopCap Games is expanding into the licensed merchandise arena this morning, saying that it has inked the first set of major merchandising agreements for its game brands, including Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled. The firm said it is expanding its properties beyond the "digital realm" with the deals, which include stuffed animals, apparel, headphones, wall graphics, sleepwear, posters, calendars and more. The move patterns after the success of Angry Birds maker Rovio, which has seen enormous distribution of its characters via licensees. PopCamp said it has inked deals with Trends International, Bioworld Merchandising, Funko, MjC International, Jazwares and Walls360, who are slated to start shipping products this spring across a wide range of product categories.
